IBADAN – The passing of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, has drawn heartfelt tributes from Yoruba traditional rulers across Nigeria, including monarchs in the northern region.

Leading the condolences is Oba Murtala Sani Adeleke, Chairman of Yoruba Obas in 19 northern states and the Oba Yoruba of Funtua, Katsina State. In a statement released by the association's secretary, Oba AbdulRahman Alao Yusuf of Gombe, the group described Oba Olakulehin’s death as a “profound loss” to Yorubaland and the traditional institution at large.

Despite a relatively short reign, the late monarch was praised for his wisdom, humility, and unwavering commitment to peace and unity in Ibadanland. The northern Yoruba royal leaders recalled his grace and maturity as a custodian of heritage and a guiding elder whose voice commanded both respect and admiration.

“We mourn not just a leader, but a father figure whose presence symbolized the strength and dignity of Yoruba tradition,” the statement read. “His legacy will continue to inspire future generations.”

The group extended their condolences to the royal family, the Olubadan-in-Council, the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, and Governor Seyi Makinde, urging for unity and strength in this time of grief.

The People Booklet joins the entire Yoruba nation in honoring the memory of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin — a monarch whose light shone brightly, even if briefly.
